Embedding Sustainability: Why you're going to do it
and how you're going to get there

Thursday, March 25th, 7:00-9:00 PM at TCU Place

Matt McCulloch
Corporate sustainability means simultaneously creating financial, environmental, and social value. This is easier said than done as the world of business becomes increasingly complex amidst evolving environmental and social risks combined with changing stakeholder expectations all within an increasingly interconnected world. It can be very difficult for a company to meet both short-term shareholder requirements while protecting and enhancing its reputation as a genuine and good corporate citizen.

Mattís presentation will provide context and history for how and why corporate sustainability has become part of mainstream business, what the challenges and barriers are, and why corporate culture and innovation are at the solutionís root. It will explore why and how a new set of values are driving decisions, explore a framework for creating sustainable value, offer insights into what type of skills are required by leadership teams, and provide examples of approaches and tools used by leading companies small and large. It will also discuss employee engagement strategies and their effectiveness, drawing on a number of current case studies. Through this presentation and discussion, audience members will gain a stronger appreciation for why they need to act and the critical steps required in the short and long term to profit through sustainability.

Matt McCulloch is Director of the Pembina Institute's Corporate Consulting Services. Matt's passion is to facilitate the forward shift of Canadian businesses' environmental and social performance by integrating pragmatic solutions into their strategies and operations and advancing promising clean technologies. He supports each of the corporate consulting group's three program areas: Sustainability Strategy, Climate Services, and Environmental Technology.

New This Year - Natural Step Training

Road Map Saskatoon is excited to be able to offer Natural Step Training

Thursday, March 25th, 8:00am - 12:00pm
131 Wall Street

The Natural Step provides a clear, science- and systems-based definition of sustainability.   The Natural Step Framework for strategic decision making uses that definition in a process designed to reduce financial risk and support design and innovation within organizations.

The Natural Step Framework has taken people beyond the arguments of what is and is not possible; of what may be left or right wing. Instead, the TNS Framework builds on a basic understanding of what makes life possible, how our biosphere functions and how we are part of the earth’s natural systems. Rather than get lost in abstract definitions and causes, it builds on a platform of basic science. After all, if you want to achieve ‘success’, you have to first understand what this means in real terms before you can then take strategic steps to achieve it.

The Natural Step has helped thousands of corporations and communities, educational facilities and governments develop blueprints toward sustainability. The Natural Step now has offices in 11 countries around the world.
